Oral Health Training

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Understand the importance of oral health and the potential effect on their general health, wellbeing and dignity.
  2. Understand the potential impact of untreated dental pain or mouth infection on the behaviour, and general health and wellbeing of people who cannot articulate their pain or distress or ask for help. (This includes, for example, residents with dementia or communication difficulties.)
  3. Have an awareness of common oral health problems
  4. Recognise how poor oral care can affect an individual’s overall health
  5. Overcome barriers which individuals may face when seeking oral care
  6. How to use effective communication when encouraging active participation
  7. How to record oral hygiene and dental treatments
  8. Know how and when to reassess oral health.
  9. Know how to deliver daily mouth care.
  10. Know how and when to report any oral health concerns, and how to respond to a person’s changing needs and circumstances
  11. Understand the importance of denture marking and how to arrange this for people, with their permission

Health Social and Care Qualifications


Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care

The Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care is a 58 credit qualification. This diploma is aimed at developing the knowledge, skills and competence of learners working in different roles in a health and social care setting. It’s main purpose is to support the carer’s role in the workplace and to enable them to progress with their career.


There is 9 mandatory units at level 3 :

  • Promote communication in care settings
  • Promote effective handling of information in care settings
  • Promote personal development in care settings
  • Promote person-centred approaches in care settings
  • Promote equality and inclusion in care settings
  • Promote health, safety and wellbeing in care settings
  • Responsibilities of a care worker
  • Duty of care in care settings
  • Safeguarding and protection in care settings

Learners can select a pathway that suits their role - for example, mental health, Leadership, Mentoring, Dementia, Learning Disabilities, Challenging Behaviour, Elderly, Domiciliary and General pathways


Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care

Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care is 46 credits qualification and is designed to guide and assess the development of knowledge and skills relating to the health and social care workforce and can be used to confirm competence in these areas in a wide range of job roles. This qualification is designed to equip learners with the skills and knowledge needed to care for others in a broad range of health or social care settings.


There is 9 mandatory units at level 2 :

  • Introduction to communication in health, social care or children's and young people's settings
  • Introduction to personal development in health, social care or children's and young people's settings
  • Introduction to equality and inclusion in health, social care or children's and young people's settings
  • Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care
